Rural and Regional Workforce

Darwin Workforce Project

Patients in the Top End in need of plastic surgery treatment will no longer need to travel interstate, thanks to a new partnership between ASPS and NT Health bringing specialist plastic surgeons to the region.

ASPS has been concerned with the shortage of high-quality plastic surgery services in parts of regional Australia for many years, forming a Rural and Regional Committee in 2019.

The partnership, which commenced in 2020, sees some of Australia’s most highly skilled plastic surgeons work and live in the Top End in a rotation system involving Royal Darwin Hospital and Palmerston Regional Hospital. In addition to undertaking specialist plastic surgery procedures during their time on rotation, the placements also enable local surgeons to further develop their skills through training opportunities with the specialists.
